{"id":8604,"date":"2021-07-09T23:28:32","date_gmt":"2021-07-09T23:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staging.kaukauchronicles.org\/?p=8604"},"modified":"2021-07-09T23:28:32","modified_gmt":"2021-07-09T23:28:32","slug":"sabm4grn8jywhc2-k6bdk-mzw6h-8dpxr-jmx3p-9je4k-9xbrp-2mbn8-df3km-wlgyt-5y93y-dcs2r-s5daa-732lk-25ghh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.kaukauchronicles.org\/?p=8604","title":{"rendered":"Harvest Potato Bread"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"sqs-html-content\" data-sqsp-text-block-content>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">8 (3\u201d diameter) (1 c. volume) clay flowerpots<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">shortening<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">1 pkg. active dry yeast<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">1\/2 c. warm water<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">1-1\/3 c. margarine<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">1 c. milk<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">1 c. mashed potatoes<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">2\/3 c. sugar<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">1 tsp. salt<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">5-6 c. flour<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">2 eggs<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-rte-preserve-empty=\"true\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">To season flowerpots; wash pots; thoroughly grease insides of pots with shortening.  Place on 15-1\/2 x 10-1\/2\u201d jelly roll pan.  Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.  Cool.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Dissolve yeast in water.  Heat margarine with milk over low heat until margarine is melted.  Combine with potatoes, sugar and salt; mix well.  Cool to lukewarm.  Add yeast and 3 c. flour; mix well.  Blend in eggs.  Stir in enough remaining flour to form soft, sticky dough.  Cover; let rise in warm place until double in volume, about 1 hour.  Stir down dough.  Chill until double in volume, about 1 hour.  Divide dough into eight pieces.  Place dough in well greased pots.  Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><strong>Variation<\/strong>:  Substitute greased 10\u201d tube pan for flowerpots.  With tip of knife, make a slight indentation or \u201ctrack\u201d around top of bread 1\u201d in from edge.  Bake at 350 degrees for 65-75 minutes or until brown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>:  Only bake breads in new clay flowerpots which have never been used for any other purpose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Larger clay pots may be used by baking the greased pots about 5-10 minutes longer for seasoning pot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Any recipe for bread may be baked in clay pots.
