Afternoon-Tea Doughnuts

1 egg, well beaten
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. milk
1 tbsp. melted shortening
1 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder

Add sugar, salt, and shortening to egg. Mix and sift flour and baking powder and add to first mixture. Shape them into tiny doughnuts and fry in deep fat (375).
